Are you a contractor, supplier, property owner, Safety Codes Officer or installer of private sewage systems in Alberta? If so, important updates to the Alberta Private Sewage Systems Standard of Practice are now available.
The Alberta Private Sewage System Standard of Practice 2021, is published on behalf of The Safety Codes Council and sets out design standards, installation standards and material requirements for on-site private sewage systems handling less than 25 cubic metres (5,500 Imperial gallons) of sewage volume per day.
The Private Sewage Systems Disposal Regulation adopts the Alberta Private Sewage Systems Standard of Practice (SOP) as amended or replaced from time to time. Version 2015 of the SOP will remain in-force until October 31, 2022 and will apply to permit applications received to October 31, 2022. After November 1, 2022, permit applications, subsequent system designs, and installations must reflect Version 2021 of the SOP. Upon completion of their SOP Update Training, Certified Installers may use and reference Version 2021 of the SOP on permit applications prior to the November 1, 2022 in-force date.
